Easter 2006

One of our students' art.

The past week, the unit we were teaching in the class was on Easter.
As it was my turn to prepare the bible lesson for the class- I had to read the Teacher's Meditation of the our school Biblical Curriculum to get ready for the lessons.
During our staff devotion and prayer time, we prayed as a school for our little ones that they will be able to understand the meaning of Jesus death and ressurection.

One thing that I was reminded again is "to follow Jesus' example of love in laying down our lives"
I remembered those verse when I first meditated on it -
1John3:16(JB)
"This has taught us love-that he gave up his life for us; and we , too, ought to give up our lives for our brothers."

I remembered penning down my own words of surrendering what I wished for. It was not easy but as I thought of what HE did on the cross and this particular verse, what I held for selfish motives was indeed ...selfish of me to hold on.

And so as I was preparing the lesson, I was brought again to face again this verse and to ponder of HIS LOVE. I was again challenged to do something for HIS purpose. As I was convicted in doing so, I obeyed and found tremendous peace knowing that in this act of obedience, I am not to expect anything in return.
Jesus gave HIS life for us ...with the knowledge that some will still reject HIM but yet went ahead because HE loves us.

While being personally convicted of this truth of HIS LOVE- It also brought me to the next step and that is HIS Ressurection, in it, there is HOPE, TRUST.

And so during the bible lesson, as I was sharing to the children the meaning of Easter (not bunnies and eggs!) It was a challenging time but my partner and I prayed for openness and that His story could be put in words that will be understood by them.
We were impressed how our class were so receptive and listening to every word that was said.
By the end of the story, one of our girl responded "Ms Doris, I love Jesus", and our little boy with Autism suddenly jumped up and was rejoicing when I mention that Jesus is not dead but lives! It was heartwarming and encouraging.
My partner was in charge of art and she helped the children in doing the empty tomb (see picture above) and we saw how much they have "absorbed" mentally, spiritually and visually. Some was really specific in their drawing adding on the cross, the lightning (as they saw in the book I used).
On the "joking" note, our boy with Asperger's Syndrome, drew a shape in the tomb and wittingly say to us "Jesus got stuck in the tomb"- well I thank God for HIS wisdom as I responded to him and say "well this is your story" :)

I just felt led to share with you this snapshot of my time at SWCK- as we are going to celebrate EASTER in a week time, may we remember of HIS love for us

1Jn 4:11
"If God loved us as much as that, surely we, in our turn, should love each other."

In conclusion, allow me to add the notes that are taken from the Biblical Curriculum-Unit J18 - Teacher's meditation, p174-175

"What are some practical ways of showing God's love?"
-Warm greetings 1Peter 5:14
-Preferring one another Phil 2:3-5
-Meeting practical needs 1John 3:17-18
-Serve John 13:14

cheers!

In His Service

Doris
